Modern Dear Jane progress

Hi sewin' buds!

I have been resisting laying out all of my Dear Jane blocks side by side. I'm not entirely sure why exactly, except that finally laying out blocks feels like my reward at the end. Does that make any sense? Anybody else get that?

After 12 weeks of sewing my Modern Baby Jane (3 months! holy cow, time flies!), I decided that I needed a little reward...

Things in my non-sewing, non-blogging life have been great and very exciting, but super stressful and time consuming the past few weeks. All good things, but I've felt so sapped at the end of each day that, after work, I haven't had the energy to do any sewing. So, I'm about 2 weeks behind on my Baby Jane,  but I'm back on target and trucking right along again!

I have to say, I'm really loving how it's coming together. Laying all 60 completed blocks out has re-inspired me. Back to the sewing machine!

Pat Sloan's American Patchwork and Quilting Radio

Modern Dear Jane Blocks, Week 12

Still trucking along on this Dear Jane Quilt, although I'm calling in the use of that extra one I made a few weeks ago. I got 4 made, though!

I Succumbed to the Scrappy Trip Along

Snarky Stitches from Sis

I got some delightful crafty items for Christmas that I wanted to share. Both of these are from my sister -  thoughtful and hilarious gifts, perfect descriptors of Karen!

This gorgeous handmade, leather business card ouch is from Materials + Process, a really cool business based in Karen's home, San Francisco.  

I don't know a whole lot about Materials + Process, but I do know I absolutely love this card holder. It even matches my business cards!

Karen also made me this framed counted cross-stitch piece designed by Subversive Cross Stitch which is now proudly displayed next to my bed. Some anti-vampire sarcasm in place of garlic.

I crack up every time I walk in my bedroom and see this sitting there.

Karen, I now need about 20 more for a gallery wall. Are you on it?

Needless to say, I made out like a bandit this Christmas! Did you get any great craftiness as gifts this year?

Christmas Quilt for Dad

My dad brought it to my attention a few months ago that, despite the large number of quilters and crafters in our family, he still didn't have a quilt of his own.

This oversight has now been rectified. I present: my dad's (only) quilt.

Designing quilts for dudes is definitely a challenge, but I'm happy with out this turned out. 

Simple design, simple quilting, some manly colors. Done.

Another Christmas success story! 

A Quilt for Karen

My sis is a pretty cool chick. She's hip with the groovy news.

A cool girl needs a cool quilt, and this is as cool as it gets for me.

The center circle block is one block from Denyse Schmidt's "Single Girl" quilt that I love oh-so much. It's scrappy with some delicious fussy cutting in there - some birds, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, a sensible pear for a well-balanced quilt. You know, the works.

 The background fabric is Essex Linen in Flax. It's fairly delightful, I won't lie. I'll be using this again and again. This linen is a godsend for backgrounds in my opinion. Very snuggly, too.

The quilting was done by my sweet mom in an all-over feather pattern. Very simple and modern, but a fairly dense design which is what I wanted for all the negative space.

There not a ton of piecing in this quilt at all, obviously - just 1 real block! But I think you get a lot of bang for your buck with the flax background. Maybe just me, but I really like the effect.

I was just a hair behind on these Christmas projects, so this quilt got wrapped up with the binding only halfway on. It was finished soon after Christmas was over, though, so no worries, right?

 And sis was snuggled up in it before I could finish binding, so I think she liked it!
