Blog Tour Day 6

Today on Day 6 of the Modern Designs for Classic Quilts blog tour, we hop over to Quilting is my Therapy with Angela Walters! Angela is the author of two books of her own, a fabric designer, and most notably, an absolutely amah-zing quilter. I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you didn't already know, but wow, this gal can quilt!

When this book project finally became official in the fall of 2011, I knew that I wanted a Dresden Plate to be one of the quilts I made for the book. As my design for the quilt evolved, it became very clear to me that this bad boy was going to need some serious quilting in all of the negative background space, and who better to turn to for that quilting that Angela?! Thanks for being part of this project, Angela!

When I moved to Charleston back in July, the first thing I did after sign a lease was to find out more info on the Charleston Modern Quilt Guild and this group of gals has become a real lifesaver to me in a place where I know next to no one.

My Charleston Guild is currently doing a bee, and this month, we're all making a Granny Square Quilt Block for Tamie. Tamie provided us with the white background fabric, the instructions from Blue Elephant Stitches found HERE, and then gave us free reign on the other colors and fabrics we used.

Blog Tour Day 5 and My Quilty Feelings

Today, the Blog Tour takes us to the lovely land of Generation Q. At Gen Q, the people are happy to see you, they tell you how pretty and talented you are (and I think they mean it), they turn out a magazine that never ceases to inspire you to run straight to your sewing machine. And they are friggin' hilarious.

Andie and I met with a whole bunch of the great gals from Gen Q at Quilt Market, including Jake and Megan whom I truly wish I saw more than once a year. But Tracy and I go WAYYYY back to Fall Quilt Market 2011 Spring Market 2012. You know how with some people you just click? Tracy and I clicked, and I want her to move to Charleston and go to the Farmer's Market with me. (DO IT, TRACY! I'll take you to all of the quilt shops....!)

My cohort in crime, Andie, wrote a very heart-felt blog post about the Gen Q folks and I really can't say it better than she did. So go read her post. And then go read the Gen Q post. mkay?

I do want to say that I have been blown away and brought to tears more than once by the way the quilting community has been and continues to be so supportive of me, Andie, and our baby-book. We love to quilt, and just as important, we love our quilting friends. I could go on and on, but for now, I just want to simply thank Tracy, Megan, Jake, the rest of the Generation Q team, and all the rest of you out there who are so lovely, supportive, and welcoming of two more voices into the quilting landscape.

We are very fortunate to have you in our lives.

Blog Tour Day 3 and Quilt Market Part 2

I'm sorry it's so late, but I had a dinner date with this awesome girl and became so engrossed in good conversation and a cucumber martini that I am blogging, well, late. So without further ado . . .

Day 3 on the Modern Designs for Classic Quilts blog tour is none other than my Cincinnati Modern Quilt Guild buddy and quilter extraordinaire, Jill of Darling Jill Quilts. Jill quilted - not one, not two, but three of the quilts in the book, including the cover log cabin quilt and Andie's flying geese quilt.

I'm going to be really honest here when I say that Jill is, hands down, one of the most perfectly precise quilters I've ever known in real life. I mean, seriously, check out this girl's blog and see some of her quilts. The piecing is PRISTINE, and always deserving of the "slow clap."  Visit her post to see some of her process shots that she took while quilting them. Modern Designs for Classic Quilts Blog Tour Kickoff

Dear Jane Quilt, Week 3

The sewing mojo was good to me this week and I got 6 - count 'em SIX - Dear Jane blocks finished!  woot!  Granted, a couple of 'em were pretty easy, but whatevs - a finish is a finish!

I'm super diggin' the aqua, red and white, and I LOVE that little polka dot in the background. You know I love the polka dots...
